Pavia

A town for a thousand stories

Pavia is a small town rich in history and it is well-suited for a short stay, both for tourist and business purposes: its ancient alleys, its views, its squares, allow it to be visited also by those who have little time to spare.

If the time of your stay allows it, besides the town’s “classical” monuments, we recommend exploring also the surroundings: the Ticino river, if you like nature, but also the ancient castles, the hills and the small villages of the Oltrepò.

The nearest monument to our suites, is the Castello Visconteo , a well preserved medieval complex of the 14th century, now the seat of the Musei Civici (of Pavia and venue of important exhibitions, the dates of which you can consult  here

Just two walking minutes away you encounter the great Piazza della Vittoria, with the broletto  and the Duomo  of Pavia: one of the most important Renaissance buildings of our country. Not far from the Duomo, you can visit the remains of the Municipal Tower.

Besides the Duomo, also the basilica di San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro, of medieval origin is worth visiting.

Another place worth visiting is the Ponte Coperto , which joins the old town centre with the Borgo Ticino: a very characteristic fishermen village. The covered bridge is actually a reconstruction dating back to the post-war period.

Also the courtyards and the library of the University of Pavia deserve your attention.

The promenade of Corso Garibaldi, will lead you to Piazza San Michele  to visit the Church bearing the same name, full of charm and one of the main masterpieces of Lombard-Romanesque architecture.

the Certosa di Pavia

the Charterhouse of Pavia is a monumental complex of great historical and artistic value and of great national importance. It consists of a Monastery and a Sanctuary. It was probably once connected to the Castle of Pavia. It is situated in the municipality bearing the same name and it can be easily reached by train or by bus from the centre of Pavia.
